As you can see, the city|view blog has been on a little hiatus lately… buried under never ending snow (NINE consecutive days worth!), and temps mostly below 20. Don’t worry, though – I’ve been spending my days preparing for 2009, and will have some fun new stuff happening at city|view photography this year (:

In the meantime, I was chatting with someone yesterday who told me about a series of portraits in the New York Times Magazine of folks important to the new administration, so I checked it out. Very cool… sort of a study in psychology and photography. The commentary provided is very interesting too, especially if you’re a photographer, so turn on your sound!

This was waiting for me in my email inbox this morning, and I just had to share with everyone. I love looking at wildlife photography, but I’ve never done any myself… maybe a safari is in order (ha!). Anyhoo – check out the BBC site for photos from the 2008 Wildlife Photographers of the Year. I especially love this one:

You can view more images from the competition at the Natural History Museum.

Environmental Graffiti recently posted some spectacular image of Earth, taken by NASA’s satellites, and exhibited in 2000 at the Library of Congress. This one of the Malaspina Glacier in Alaska is my favorite:

You can see the Library’s Earth as Art exhibit online.

Also check out Environmental Graffiti for other great pictures of this planet (for example, another of my favorites: the 10 Creepiest Trees on Earth).

Enjoy (:

Not only do I love taking pictures, I love looking at pictures. And like many photographers, I spend a lot of time looking at other peoples’ pictures for inspiration, and to support their work. Today I came across this blog from the Boston Globe’s website, called The Big Picture that posts photo essays about various subjects (today’s topic, for example, is the wildfires out West) and I spent waaaay too much time looking at them today.

Thought you guys might enjoy this, too. I’m off to add it to my Google Reader….
