My birthday was last week and to celebrate, J and I headed waaay out to Starved Rock State Park and spent the day hiking to and through canyons and waterfalls. Clear blue skies, very warm temps, lots of shade. It was just what I wanted and it was beautiful.

You can see more images from our trip to Starved Rock at flickr.

Isn’t Bode the sweetest? I think he was both fascinated by, and wary of, the strange lady with the big camera following him around (who wouldn’t be, right?). We had a good time a couple of weekends ago exploring a beautiful nearby garden where Bode proceeded to be the cutest kid in the neighborhood. I think by now he’s a big brother, so that’s a title he’ll likely be sharing with his new little brother or sister.

Coming up next… more toddlers and babies!! Plus travel photos from Death Valley National Park in California, and Starved Rock State Park in Illinois!

I have had so much fun photographing crawlers and toddlers lately! These sessions are always fun, spontaneous little adventures. Here’s a little look at some recent sessions. I’ll be posting more from each soon.

So sorry for not posting the winner of the free photography contest yesterday – it was a travel day and I underestimated how much I wouldn’t want to spend my first night in Nevada on the computer (: Having said that, I am all settled in now, and ready to announce the winner…. drumroll, please…

Congratulations to LIZ, commenter number 3!!!!!!

I believe I have seen Liz (and even photographed her) perform with Pyrotechniq, but I’ve never actually met her so I’m looking forward to that, and to figuring out which one of her fun events I’m going to get to photograph! Liz, I’ll be in touch soon to start planning (:

The winner was chosen using Random.org, but I only have J’s laptop (I’m a Mac; he’s a PC) so I have no idea how to do a screen capture or crop or anything so you’ll have to trust me for now. Hopefully he can help me with that later and I can update this post with the Random.org’s results via an image.

Happy Wednesday!

With the warm, sunshiny goodness that Chicago has been enjoying lately, surely you can forgive me for neglecting my blogging duties? Earlier this week, Amanda and I spent a little time at Diversey Harbor enjoying the views and the boats and the general loveliness of the day. I admit that shooting portraits in full sun makes me a little hesitant, but this time I decided to just embrace the dappled lighting and general… well, brightness. I think it went quite well. What do you think?

See more images from this session on the city|view photography Facebook page. And become a fan while you’re there!
